A million dollars on your mind, zero in your pocket. Shit is hard out there and ATL native Stanza has no problem rappin’ about things that might make it even harder for him as a recording artist. “Million Dollars” is a triumph in communication. Stanza’s delivery alters the common place topics into engaging reminders of historically significant perspectives on race and working class struggle. When he raps the perspective of his boss you might sit there and think back to your last managerial pep talk. The fluidity of his one-liners, although technically not haikus (poems for which he says he had an affinity for) do evoke a sense of compactness and practicality. This kid isn’t trying to mesmerize you with lyrical trickery and then surprise you with wittiness but he is trying to make a point. And so he does. There’s an extended short film version of Million Dollars to peep. And a coke commercial, or BET competition type show, whatever you wanna call it, that Stanza won a few weeks ago.
