The Open Mind (Brooklyn Residency, January 2019)

Happy New Year! As a finale of sorts before I move, I’ve curated a weekly residency each Sunday in January at Barbes (376 9 St.) in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Open Mind, the longstanding Brooklyn trio of Rodney Chapman, Radu Ben Judah and Taru Alexander headline each show, exploring Jazz standards with a macro lens & fully open aperture. Now, not to spell this out too literally, but many of you may already be familiar with Rodney Chapman, some call him Don, he was on my podcast (#99) and at one time produced many sought after works in the genre of hip-hop. He leads with fervor on Tenor Sax, each show, his band is 👌🏼. I culled an incredible supporting cast of artists on each show, many of which I tagged here and very grateful they are down. You can arrive at 4 or so, it starts at 5pm and will be over by 7. Suggested donation, although no set cover. In lieu of a big party, come thru and hang with me at these shows: before I move. Each artist is based in Brooklyn, where I’ve lived for 15 years. Also, I made this flyer partially from bits of art book I found on the sidewalk Sunday, copied at 7th Ave Copy & Office Supplies, and partially at Staples on 5th Ave.
