Intense undertaking by English scholar and rap enthusiast Baba Brinkman with entire songs and original music dedicated to various theories of Evolutionary Psychology. Your initial impulse might be to liken this to commonly “celebrated” geek rap or nerdcore rap but unlike that sub-genre, which seems to have been willed into existence by a minority of fans, this record is less about celebrating being awkwardly intelligent than it is about a complex subject that happens to be tackled, in raps, by an unabashedly focused intelligence. Yes the beats are a bit cheez and the style ain’t gonna get you amped but I think the content and fun approach deserve some recognition. Maybe add it to your secret Paul Barman playlist. Evolution of Gayness could be a good first listen, as it runs down the different top theories for the leading benefits of a Darwinisitc adaptation to same-sex love (not just for humans) and includes a thoughtful, well scratched chorus.
