Mingo Mix 4.0: Who Are These Guys? 90s Mix [audio] 2

With 2008 almost upon us, I thought what better way to celebrate the new year than to make a 90s hip-hop mix. However, I didn’t follow the same formula as other mixes from this era i.e. compiling the most popular songs from the most popular artists. Instead, I looked through the archives for some incredibly dope tracks from some relatively unknown artists. Why? Cause more than anything else, the 90s was all about that dope rapper from around the way no one’s ever heard of that, for some reason or another, never got the shine he deserved. It’s about that rapper who made his ends any way possible just so that he could pay for studio time. Most of all, it’s about that rapper who was able to release that dope single only to never be heard from again. This mix is dedicated to you.

And in case you missed it the first, second or third time around, I uploaded the first three Mingo Mixes as well. Links below. Enjoy…

Strength To Tragedy Khadafi, Serving Time Until 2011 1

Tragedy Khadafi

Peace and strength to Percy Chapman, aka Tragedy Khadafi, who apparently started to serve a 4 year bid this past Thursday. I was really hoping this would turn out to be a rumor but just searched the inmate database and it looks like it’s really happening. Send your letters to:

Finally (The EP) by Blame One feat. Emanon, Exile, Aloe Blacc [download] 1

Finally (The EP) by Blame One

Ripped from the vinyl only release by Blame One himself. Extended liner notes with a personal account of the songs can be found on DirtyScience.net, the new Blame One and Exile blog. The download features mp3s digitized @ 256kbps. Dope. Link

This download will be really dope to some, outdated and/or even wack to others.Fuck it, it is what it is. I recorded this from vinyl straight to mp3 for the first time. I originally only pressed 500 copies of this on vinyl. It was my first vinyl as a solo artist (my group mysterys extinction was featured on vinyl before this). I to this day only have one copy so its very limited. Two songs ended up on “chemically imballanced” but they were heard here first. I didnt add any restoration or effects to clean it up, I kept it exactly as is. Ive always wanted to tell a bit of history behind songs and since this is free… I figured… why not

Rza - Twelve Jewelz [video] 8

Recorded this at the recent Rza show @ Hiro Ballroom. Shyheim and Solomon Child also performed. Dope show although the venue doesn’t seem to be suitable for live performances. There was very poor lighting on stage. The feedback on the mics were pretty bad. And it seemed like most of the crowd wasn’t even sure who Rza was. During his set, I noticed people leaving, talking and even slow dancing. I know Wu-Tang appeals to many types of crowds but slow dancing? On a more positive note, a lot of the females in the place were slammin’ so I definitely wouldn’t mind a return trip. But back to the show…

Due to equipment failure, Rza’s set was unfortunately cut short. Before all of that, he performed a large amount of material from “Birth Of A Prince” such as The Grunge, We Pop and Grits. Add on his verse from Reunited and 4th Chamber and it was a solid show.

Got a few more videos from this show to edit and upload so check back here or on our yout*be channel soon (link below). And don’t forget to subscribe! link, show info

NYC Live Throw Down: 1979-1985 DVD Bootleg? 4

NYC Live

Not sure what to make of this release but it screams bootleg. And I didn’t even mention the misleading title. You don’t actually get a DVD filled with videos from these shows. Rather, you’re paying for a data disc containing mp3s of these performances. Still nice to have depending on the quality of the audio. Wonder who these cats are. Link

Over 1 full day (33 live performances) of vintage and official live throwdowns, spanning from 1979 to 1985. New York City’s original school together in one complete set. This collector’s set includes one data DVD containing 3.5 GB of high quality (320 Bit Rate) mp3s (26 hours of music - all 25 volumes). Each show is ID’d and sequenced, resulting in convenient use and enjoyment, as opposed to each show being one thirty to ninety minute-long continuous track. No collection is complete without the infamous Kool Moe Dee / Busy Bee scuffle, or the notorious routines of the Force MCs, Treacherous Three, and Cold Crush 4 MCs. The list of essentials on this disc is endless. Includes a 24 page full color booklet of vintage NYC show flyers and artwork.

Two Tone Elephants Being Used For Shooting Practice 2

Two Tone Records antilogo

Two Tone Elephants is the label behind the much admired (by me anyway) Toca project which has been featured on grandgood many times so I won’t harp on it any more. Sucks to see politics and bullshit affecting the dynamics of the group. Dissenters of the album’s initial marketing campaign have started an alternate mysp*ce page recently to clarify the group’s origins and the roles of the individual members. I’m normally not one to air out people’s dirty laundry but I think it is important for fans, present and future, to have a clear understanding of how this album came to be.

A.G. Acapella from Lord Finesse & Grand Puba show [video] 1

I’ve been bumpin this video for a few days now. A.G. absolutely rips it. Wonder where these raps are going to eventually end up. Maybe on an upcoming D.I.T.C. project? Lord Finesse mentioned four that are scheduled to drop in ’08:

1) D.I.T.C. album
2) Show & A.G. album
3) Grand Puba album produced entirely by Lord Finesse
4) A.G. and O.C. collabo album (peep the video of both performing a track from the new album)

Should be a dope year for the crew if everything pans out! Link
