Rakim

Rakim ends the last Hip-Hop show at the Knitting Factory with a nice acapella rhyme. Major props are in order to Peter Agoston for organizing a whole gang of classic shows over the past two years. Peace.

Personally, I thought is was a “lemme just get paid for this sh_t” show. Rakim was soft – the DJ set was soft. The 40 people packed on stage were soft. He didn’t do one thing to demonstrate his legacy. It was a preset layout that he stuck to. I wonder if he even has enough to spit a few bars from “Lyrics of Fury”
The whole show fell apart around 1am and I was more surprised that the crowd was so soft.

What were you expecting him to do? Do jumping jacks or something?

I’ve seen him perform a bunch of times already and I’ll be the first to admit he isn’t the most entertaining live act but Rakim definitely did his thing up there man. And although most of the set was the set he usually does, he did perform two new things I’ve never seen before:

    1) The dope new track he started the set off with…I wish he spit more verses cause that was a hot track

    2) The acapella at the end was dope too
