Juke Bots 0

Saw these machines today at nextfest. The delicacy and finesse of their movement was captivating. The music the programmers chose was cool. And the motivation the reps described for developing the exhibition was inspiring. Good luck to them. Link

Rugged Man Producing Horror Flick, Prince Paul Doing Score 0

Link

M: So tell me about this movie. Are you a director now?

R.A.: Naw, I’m producing it and Frank Henenlotter is directing. He’s the director of Frankenhooker and Basket Case 1, 2 and 3. Gabe Bartalos, who worked on Leprechaun, is doing the special effects, and Prince Paul is doing the original score. Jedi Mind Tricks is executive-producing, and there’s a couple of cameos from J-Zone and Killah Priest, but we also got actor motherfucker types in there too. It’s a little horror sex thing, you know, chills and thrills. It’s actually a god-awful love story. (other phone rings) One sec man…Sorry ’bout that. They want me to interview Crispin Glover tomorrow for Mass Appeal magazine.

Aphilliates Music Group Signed 3

Aphilliates Music Group recently signed to Asylum, a sub of Warner. Aphilliates includes notables Dj Drama (a disputed dj/blogger?) and Willie The Kid (La the Darkman’s younger brother and kind of protege). I read an article a few weeks back, can’t remember where, about Willie being signed and paying for his sister’s college tuition. He must have attended one of Russel’s finance conferences. Good for him. La is also credited as an exec for the group. I wonder what that’s about. More importantly though, maybe this will be a way for La to execute a follow up album with some real marketing/distro might behind it. Link

Surprise Buck Album 1

Buck65 has recorded a new album and he didn’t share it with his label until after completion. I wonder if they’ll make him tweak it for release? It’s the follow up to Secret House. I will look forward to this one, especially after learning it was recorded bedroom style. In addition, the Language Arts Part 7 he released a few months back was great and got me feelin’ nostalgic for pre-signed buck. Another project to look forward to is an album he’s handling production work for, which features “[T]wo heavyweight guys in, for lack of a better word, indie hip-hop…” He calls them a supergroup. I wonder who that could be? Link

AUDIOCAST NO. 091106 2

Kimya Dawson sings pretty about some ugly things. Appropriate to think about on this day. GRANDGOOD slowly recuperating from hard disk failure. If anyone has our old audiocasts, send them in please. Myspace is going to start selling songs digitally soon so sign up your hiphop band. Everyone’s a hiphoper, ask Elton John. Hopefully they’ll redesign that crappy site when they add downloads. Method Man’s album was disappointing because of the beats, not his lyrics. Serengeti keeps on killin Emynd’s beats, our favorite MC season after season it seems. Lupe Fiasco blowing up, grandgood don’t know nothing about Chicago. Kill the Vultures are continuing to put out some dark moody music with hard drums. Maybe people would appreciate their sound more if their producer Anatomy released a silk screen 7inch. I can’t wait for that GRANDGOOD sh*t to drop, what’s taking so long? X Clan is putting out a new record? Wow. Amongst other things…..please go out and support your favorite artists and they will support you. Don’t just be a spectator, participation is critical.

Mobb Deep, Boot Camp Clik & Raekwon Live 7.19.06 0

Damn, I’ve been sleepin’ on this post for almost two months now. Nothing much I can say about this that won’t bore most of you. This is the second time seeing Boot Camp Clik live and they killed it again. Raekwon performed classic material from Only Built For Cuban Linx and even brought out surprise Wu guests like Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck and Gza, which led to renditions of Triumph, Liquid Swords, Glaciers Of Ice and Criminology.

My biggest problem was the set by Mobb Deep. Calling it lackluster is a definite understatement. Most of the set list was comprised of tracks from albums not called The Infamous or Hell On Earth. I wasn’t feeling it and the crowd wasn’t either. Compared to the previous acts, the noise level for Mobb Deep was almost inaudibile. Needless to say, their set sucked a**.

Note: If the audio quality of the videos bother you enough to press mute, then you have no business listening to hip-hop. Really, I’m just kidding. But honestly I am not.
