Encompassed within this discussion is the idea of entertainment as preoccupation, as distraction and how this consumption constitutes the grand “work” of the modern citizen. Lest we forget the end consumers of these expressions are not necessarily of one race. And this also reminds me of an article on the disproportionate amount of income the average American spends on entertainment versus groceries or other essentials for living. What are we working for? Can the pursuit for Happiness be translated to Entertain Me! ?
