Funkmaster Flex premiers the title track from Rae’s forthcoming solo. Originally concocted as a Rza-less album during the internal group conflict that preceded the release of 8 Diagrams, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang later morphed into a solo project for The Chef. One wonders if the clan contemplates brand dilution when churning out these tracks. Is it wrong for me to think of any Wu release that excludes Rza’a hand as a side project? The production on Diagrams was thoughtful, provoking and boundary-pushing, whilst here we seem to get a Do your best Wu-Elements impression beat with just the right Kung-Fu movie sample.
