I find it kind of strange that one of the best albums for the ’09 seems to have been ignored by most rap nerds that talk shit online. CV seems to think the record’s dirty production is inaccessible but I don’t know if that can account for it entirely. Yeah, you can hear vinyl pops throughout the lp and the bass lines might be too much for shitty computer speakers or iphone buds but eff all that. I’ve come to look forward to G4’s signature sound, not to mention Qwel’s word play and thematic presentation (seriously, a lot of rappers should feel embarrassed rhyming after listening to this. His titles are more interesting than most bodies of work). I guess it is supposed to be “limited edition” so maybe that’s part of the reason it fell below the radar but practically speaking, this thing leaked online weeks ago and we all know limited edition status is null for digital goods. Big up Jackson Jones, bringing that heat and uncanny ability to capture Qwel’s anger, disappointment and cockiness (insert [II] here if you’re 15 and under…and if you’re on the rap bandwagon, i guess qwel & jackson jones being white might be of interest, although i really hope it’s not of interest).
