Interesting interview by Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds for their Juan Epstein podcast. I didn’t know that Q-Tip produced Gangsta Bitch. He talks about producing the first three ATCQ records by himself and other interesting bits including:
– who Kid Hood was and how they were supposed to do an album together
– wrote and produced Bonita Applebum when he was 15
– doing drums on the SP1200 and loops in the Akai s950
– first time Q-Tip heard NWA’s Straight Outta Compton, it inspired him to make Low End Theory sound the way that it sounded. Dr. Dre told him later on that hearing Low End Theory inspired him to make the Chronic.
– Produced for the Jungle Brothers on their first album, also mixed Straight Out The Jungle With Bam and Red Alert
