Afrika Bambaataa

Afrika Bambaataa, the godfather of Hip-Hop and founder of the Universal Zulu Nation, has a DJ set this Saturday at Hiro Ballroom. Apparently, every Saturday, the venue has a 80s and old school hip-hop night, complete with a special guest DJ. I had a chance to check it out recently and Questlove had me going all night. The week before, Grandmaster Flash was doing the same thing. Sounds like a really dope spot, especially if you have a fetish for hot Asian chicks. And did I forget to mention Rza did a show there last December? more info

Saturday, March 1 @ Hiro Ballroom
Doors open at 10pm

Generally regarded as the Godfather of Hip-Hop, Afrika Bambaataa is the real deal. His early single ‘Planet Rock’ (1982) heralded the birth of a new era in electronic music, and is still played regularly in clubs to this day. His subsequent high-profile collaborations with people such as Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols (a.k.a. John Lydon), James Brown, Boy George and George Clinton among others helped inestimably to push the hip-hop genre forward. We could go on… but this guy has acheived so much in his life that we’ll just direct you to his wikipedia page and tell you that the guy still knows how to throw down. This is going to be a great night.

DJ Roxy Cottontail will also be spinning!
