Gallo stars in a new print campaign for G-Star and they released a companion video with music by, you guessed it, Vincent Gallo. More in the vain of work I’ve heard him play live. Another recently released recording of his is No Regard, taken from the soundtrack to “Wretches & Jabberers”, a documentary on autism. Stumbled upon these as I was reading more and more about his decision to not release his latest film, Promises Written In Water.

“I do not want my new works to be generated in a market or audience of any kind,”

Their last nyc show was an interesting experience. Although I felt out of place. And I missed 80% of it. But yeah, still enjoyed myself. Link (via)

update: Thanks jjrab. Apparently the lineup has changed somewhat since their last tour. It is now Vincent Gallo, Simon Haas and Nikolas Haas instead of Vincent Gallo, Eric Erlandson, Rebecca Casabian and Nikolas Haas.

This painting by Liverpool based Ash Wan is titled “Minerals, Vitamins, Irons, Niacin”. Ash saw our tagline and thought we might appreciate. He was right. It reminds me of my Vincent Gallo painting. Good looks.

update: So we received a take down notice in the form of a yout*be message. The subject title reads “Gallo copyright” and therefore we are taking down the interview with Vincent Gallo. Unfortunate because it was really interesting and should be available for easy sharing. That is why I had ripped the clips from the website and combined them into one easy to view stream.

Truth be told, I had an expectation to receive some kind of notice. I just thought it would be interesting to see the extent of the copyright holders reaction. I am surprised they noticed so quickly. Initially my plan was to leave it up and then right a sarcastic response about how marketing campaigns of this nature are futile as they can not successfully recreate a sense of “underground” or artistic revolt, evidenced primarily by limitations of copyright and corporate entitlement. I guess I felt like being a smart *ss. But someone pointed out to me that yout*be might just decide to shutdown our account and I wouldn’t want that so I’ll just fall back. I’ll leave the Rza interviews up until they mention that specifically.

The new commercial for the Belvedere Vodka marketing campaign, which in it’s current state is only a 30 second TV spot, is directed by Terry Richardson, a photographer with a controversial reputation because of his taste for provocative images. News of the campaign and the commercial itself has spread across a variety of rap and art friendly sites due to the involvement of two other complex and generally misunderstood figures, the Wu-Tang general, Rza, and the last american hero, Vincent Gallo.

After watching the main video, which appears to have been heavily edited to fit a 30 second TV segment, you will probably be left with a desire to see or hear more. Good thing then that the minds behind the campaign have decided to upload behind the scenes footage over on the official site. Don’t miss insightful-as-always commentary from Vincent Gallo on the history of the downtown scene and great footage of the Rza playing a soulful chord progression on the piano.

This is Chris Squire’s solo masterpiece LP “Fish Out Of Water” on 8 Track format (extremely rare). Vincent Gallo has been a huge Yes fan since he was a young kid, and Yes bassist Chris Squire has always been one of his idols. At the age of 13, Vincent began a highly sexual affair with a 19 year old Buffalo slut who had her own car. Unfortunately, the slut’s car’s only music source was an 8 Track tape player. Though Vincent, already huge, and already a huge record collector, was famous in Buffalo for making mixed tapes, they were all mixed on cassette and could not be played in the slut’s car. During these crude sexual encounters Gallo was starved for music, something to distract him from her alcoholic breath. So Gallo went out and purchased a copy of his idol Chris Squire’s new and latest solo recording “Fish out of Water” on 8 Track. With the over-aged drunken slut, Gallo performed every possible sexual act. Since he only owned a single 8 Track (the one being offered), technically these bizarre sexual encounters were all performed to this actual 8 Track. With some forensic work I’m sure some traces can be found of Gallo’s sexual DNA. Though Gallo still loves to do it in a car, all of his high performance and luxury vehicles now have CD players. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth perfectly described the ATP Festival as ‘the ultimate mix tape’.”

The show last night was great. Sean Lennon and Vincent Gallo sung and played beautifully at the Rothko, a venue in the Lower East Side. Lukas Haas’ younger brother backed them up well on the drums. Sorry, no audio or pictures, I had my tape recorder and digital cam ready to go but when I got to the line I noticed they weren’t letting people in with any equipment, even people with cameraphones were not being let in (although it seems some people were able to sneak in stuff, check out the pics at alarming news). They played mostly songs from Gallo’s When album that was released through Warp Records. They also played some of Lennon’s work and they did a beautiful cover of King Crimson’s Moonchild. The place was fire-hazardly packed and you were pretty much stuck in the same spot throughout the set. It lasted for a little over an hour. Gallo’s new film Brown Bunny is being released this weekend in the United States and I heard he was on Howard Stern this morning, must have been interesting.

If you didn’t know, Vincent Gallo was poppin in Graffiti Rock back in the day and releasing 12inches under “Prince Vince.” His music is well regarded by musicians like Rick Rubin, thats why you can see Gallo walking around in Jay-Z’s video for 99 problems. He’s also into films, motorcycle racing, audiophilia, steel work, sincerity and girls. He seems like a fun guy.
