In the light of news of Souljah Boy buying a 55 Million Dollar Jet in these times for many people especially of color..This is a polite respect call to the troops , to continue to inspire but reflect the people better. OTIS Redding was a humble country man from Macon Georgia who bought a jet to work in, not flash. He perished in that plane. Heres to hoping that the J & K supergroup can elevate the masses and try a little bit more to reflect OTIS heart rather than swag, because they’re too good to be less.

Angus: Public Enemy has got a box set out now, but it’s just of the post-Def Jam material. I imagine those issues over clearances for previously unreleased material will remain an issue for Universal. Chuck D has told me that it would have been easy to do under the Def Jam/Sony relationship because there was – to paraphrase him – a very different set of corporate instincts regarding the risk inherent in that kind of project; but after Def Jam was bought out by Universal there was a change in attitude.

He also talked about something he called “new discovery” which would happen if and when anyone went back to the original PE master tapes and remixed or remastered them: there are sonic elements on those records which are unidentifiable, and indeed pretty much inaudible, in the finished and originally released versions, but without which the tracks don’t work – yet the legal onus would be on the company releasing a remaster to go through the multitracks and ensure every last thing was cleared. Chuck said those PE albums didn’t just contain samples from hundreds of records – they came from thousands.

Went down at the free Public Enemy show in Central Park over the weekend. Chuck D brings out the Cold Crush Brothers for a short set and they rocked it. This certainly isn’t the best I’ve ever recorded but it’ll do considering the circumstances. Here’s to more surprise appearances like this by the CCB’s. And here’s to hoping I hear about it in advance so I can go! Be sure to watch the video in 1080p for maximum cold crushin’ grandgoodness.

Spotted at the free show today in Central Park. When Kool Herc was doing his thing, cats around me were saying some disrespectful things e.g. get this guy outta here, next act please, etc. Seriously, is it unrealistic of me to ask that Hip-Hop fans know their history? They may not like the breaks Herc was spinning but at least acknowledge him for who he is. Is that too much to ask or am I just a dreamer?

Mele Mel popped his head on stage to say happy birthday to Flavor Flav and ended up kicking some rhymes.

Massive update to our youtube channel over the weekend, totaling 26 videos from the Public Enemy + Flavor Flav 50th birthday celebration that went down a week or two ago. Not only was it a PE show but the group decided beforehand that they were performing the entire “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” album in its entirety. Add on guest appearances AND performances by legendary artists Ice-T, Mele Mel and The Kangol Kid. Peace to Kool Herc, Chuck Chillout, Easy Mo Bee and Psycho Les in the building.

Last night at BB Kings in NYC, Flavor Flav brought in his 50th birthday with Chuck D and a bunch of their friends. And when I say friends, it includes legendary Hip-Hop figures such as Kool Herc, Easy Mo Bee, Ice-T, Kangol Kid, Eric B, Mele Mel, Chuck Chillout and more. Even before Flavor Flav even got in the building, everyone knew it was going to be a great show just because it was Public Enemy. So when Chuck D announced they would be performing the entire “It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back” album front to back, the crowd went crazy.

The performance itself was amazing. Public Enemy rocked for a solid two hours and, not surprisingly, the energy level brought by Chuck D and Flavor Flav was high throughout as they were constantly on the move either rhyming, juggling the mic, doing jump kicks or just running around having fun. In addition to performing the album, PE also did their classics such as Public Enemy #1, Shut Em Down and Fight The Power.

When Chuck and Flav weren’t running around kicking rhymes, they brought out their friends. Earlier in the night, Kangol Kid came out and did Roxanne, Roxanne. Kool Herc and Chuck Chillout made a brief appearance to show Flav some love. Eric B and Easy Mo Bee came out and did the same. Then one of the oddest (and coolest) moments of the night was when Flav brought out his good friend and legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward to announce an upcoming one-time only boxing match between Flav and an unnamed opponent. I guess that’s Flav just being Flav. Chuck also brought out Mele Mel, which prompted Flav to start The Message so that Muscles Simmons could finish it off with a bang. But the most memorable guest appearance of night was made by none other than Ice-T. After Ice came out on stage and said a few words, Flav put him on the spot and made a special birthday request. Flav wanted to play the drums while Ice kicked some rhymes. If that doesn’t sound amazing to you, trust me, it definitely was. It was the dopest part of a night chock full of great moments.
