A week after the untimely passing of Gang Starr MC Guru, Jeru the Damaja and Group Home—two rap acts part of the Gang Starr foundatioin—will be playing a concert in the fallen legend’s old stomping grounds in Brooklyn.

Jeru and Group Home will be joining a lineup that also includes headliner Ghostface Killah and Brand Nubian alum Grand Puba. The show will be hosted by comedian Freez Luz A.K.A. Paul Farmer, and is expected to include guest DJ sets by Statik Selektah, J. Period and DJ Sean.

Presented by The Heavy Sound, the concert is set to take place on Thursday, April 29 at the Warsaw in Williamsburg. Tickets will only be available at the day of the show.

The second tribute show dedicated to the memory of Roc Raida went down a few months back and was organized by Lord Finesse. Performers and appearances by the likes of Kool Herc, Jazzy Jay, Large Professor, Grand Puba, Sadat X, A.G., Immortal Technique, Neek The Exotic, O.C. and The Beatnuts. Good look, is it not? The press release states that Puba has been rhyming since eleven years old. This image was extracted from his pops’ Super-8 home video.

The new album will be called “Retroactive” and is scheduled to be released June 23rd, 2009. Is this the album that is produced entirely by Lord Finesse? If not, who’s handling the beats on this? And when is that other damn album coming out?!?!

I am pretty excited about this. Looking forward to finally seeing all members rock the same stage on the same night. Maybe we’ll see some special surprise guests. I don’t think Grand Puba or Sadat X is out of the question. Neither is Greg Nice. But how about Fat Joe? buy tickets

Here’s some info about the new Cormega album scheduled to drop in a few months. The lead single Fresh features a whole bunch of cats you probably heard of already: KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Grand Puba, Parrish Smith & Kool DJ Red Alert. Think that’s impressive? The producers who contributed beats include DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Havoc, Large Professor, Easy Mo Bee, Buckwild, Ayatollah and D.R. Period among others! Thanks for the look Ice. Link

The first single “Fresh” as some of ya’ll know features KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Grand Puba, Parish Smith of EPMD & DJ Red Alert and is crazier than I thought & one of the best off the album which includes a who’s who in legendary Hip Hop beat makers such as DJ Premier (in rare form), Pete Rock (produces the albums surprise song & best track, crazy), Havoc, Large Professor, Easy Moe B, Buckwild, Ayotollah, D R Period, Lil Fame, Nottz, Emil & others. With guest appearances by Tragedy, Havoc, Lil Fame, Marley Marl (who delivers the album intro) & more along with a possible remix ft. Baggs.

The album cover itself will definitely be a conversation piece and is in direct relation to the album title which by the way is no longer “The Inevitable” as other sites & Wikipedia have mentioned nor is it “The Streets Raised Me” which was previously confirmed to me on a past conversation with Mega. Unfortunately I can’t give the actual title for obvious reasons.

One thing that will be different about this album is the approach in it’s release to which I initially expressed my concern due to Who Am I? not receiving it’s just response. Coincidentally Mega agreed with me and had already mapped out a different marketing strategy & as he put it, “I want this album to be an event!” So we can expect to see a media blitz in the form of promoting this album from Mega making appearances on your favorite music video stations like BET, video shows & more radio stations, interviews with more online media outlets, to even an idea I gave him for an EPK (album documentary) that he thought was dope and will actually (hopefully) be doing along with other shit I suggested that may be pursued.

As far as videos, a Hip Hop legend who’s also a veteran in the tv industry in the form of video shows & directing music videos is being looked at to direct “Fresh”. I won’t mention his name just yet in case it doesn’t pan out since all that is in it’s early stages. However look for the Pete Rock produced and as yet titled track to be the second single with a video of it’s own as well. Business wise no longer will Mega’s projects (including this one) from his very own Legal Hustle Music Group be distributed by Koch as Mega is in talks with a major distributing company as we speak.

Talk about a dope lineup! All of these cats are legends and for them to perform in one show is crazy. Did I forget to mention that it’ll only cost you a measly $22? Consider my ticket bought!

Also, be on the lookout for a new Grand Puba album produced entirely by Lord Finesse. I can’t seem to find much information online but I saw an ad for the release in a past issue of Wax Poetics. And when I asked Puba about it, he confirmed that it was still on. DOPE! I’ll try to put up the ad as soon I can. Link
