My dad was a complex person. He was a revolutionary of the highest order a leftist in the realest sense of the word. He was also a very published and accomplished writer. As a father he was absent for a large part of my childhood and all of my younger sisters. He was never going to win father of the year, yet in my teens he housed me, took care of me and help me get my life back on track. He bravely re entered my sister’s life when she was in her early 20’s and stayed in her life the rest of his days. He was a man of contradiction, acerbic, brilliant, and sweet, yet full of rage.

After chilling in the back all night, Busta Rhymes makes an appearance to big up Dante Ross, the A&R at Elektra Records back in the day responsible for signing artists such as Leaders of the New School, Brand Nubian, KMD and Ol’ Dirty Bastard among others. I don’t have to say anything except peep the lineup. This will be the last show at the Knitting Factory before they move to Brooklyn next year. More importantly, it will be the last show for the venue’s booking agent for all these crazy Hip-Hop shows over the past two years, Peter Agoston. Looking back, the big name acts he was able bring to such an intimate spot have been very impressive. The venue has hosted shows by the likes of Nice & Smooth, Boot Camp Clik, Gza, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Jeru The Damaja, Cormega, Das Efx, Brand Nubian, The Beatnuts and many others. Not to mention the Knitting Factory was where I got to see a super rare NYC performance by the one and only Schoolly D! Big ups to Peter for holding it down over there. I actually hooked this up my friend was a booker on the short lived Jon Stewart show and was a ODB fan. I got my 3 awesome friends the infamous uber stylist Lysa Cooper , her side kick DJ Belinda Becker and my friends ex wife Tequana and they put together a little Supremes like back up dance routine and off to the races we went. This was a fun ass day and Jon Stewart was super cool he smoked a little weed with me and the girls after the show and told us how much he loved ODB. He was cool as fuck and this was a great great day Dirty had his kids running around, my publicist at the label was super psyched and I knew Dirty was gonna blow….
