This is a Song I did for Kane in 1989 which is the title track of his album ” Its a Big Daddy Thing ” . At this point in my career this was a big highlight to work with Kane and there was definitely a mutual respect for each others talents . This was our first time working together and I have to say Kane is truly genius a funny guy and a pleasure to work with . Listening back to this song I really wish I could have made the production better . Keep in mind this was just a rough mix , the better mixed version is on the album.

“We shot this video in the Puck Building on Lafayette street. A lot of videos were shot at that particular time in that building. The whole idea was to compare hip-hop to a sport, and in this case it was boxing and it was cards. The whole idea is that it’s a game and Kane is the champion — he’s the Muhammad Ali of hip-hop. You can’t beat him.

When [Kane] first came on the scene he was wearing fatigues and Timberlands. People wanted him to stay that type of guy, but he never wanted to be your typical rapper. Kane didn’t wanna be typical anything. Kane would get fancy suits, button-down shirts and outfits from Dapper Dan, which was the designer of choice at that particular time.”

Immortal Technique killed it but best performance of the night goes to Cold Crush Brothers and Big Daddy Kane! Close runner-up goes to the reunion of the Fantastic Romatic Five.

It’s been over a week since the Cold Crush Brothers’ anniversary show but the feeling still lingers. It was a special night spent with the trailblazing group. Renowned artists such as Kool DJ Red Alert, Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Scratch, Jazzy Jay, DMC and Big Daddy Kane among others took turns getting the crowd ready for the main event. It took place at the Hip-Hop Cultural Center, a museum/venue/auditorium filled to the brim with flyers, pictures and other items from the early days. If you have a chance to visit, go do it, it’s a great location dedicated to preserving the culture through curation of historical artifacts and exhibitions. The group rarely performs together so rather than do what most people expected e.g. performing all the classic routines from back in the day, the CCB’s totally flipped the script and went Unplugged (c) MTV. The night wasn’t going to be about them trying to prove they still got what it takes; it was going to be more intimate than that. It was about sharing their experiences, motivations and feelings around some of their most classic material. It was about establishing a sense of community amongst family, friends and fans. And it worked.

Ridiculous lineup for a show going down this week. Best believe I’ll be there.

Recorded at the free Big Daddy Kane show last night in Brooklyn. He killed it as usual but Greg Nice proved once again to be one of the liveliest acts I’ve ever seen on stage. How old is this dude again? Cause you can’t tell when he’s on stage and, in this case, amongst the crowd doing his thing.

For good measure, here’s Kane ending his set with a dope acapella and some of his signature classics, culminating in his famous dance routine to Warm It Up, Kane. Now, how old is THIS dude? Apparently, not old enough to stop doing splits on stage. Great show.
