DAVE DUB AND THE SUTTER CAIN GANG
Addiction. Denial, self pity and fun. If it don't kill you it'll just drive you insane. Excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Welcome to Programmed D. Dave Dub cultivated this 4 year journey documented through compositions that bleed. One of the most elusive and thought provoking rhymers ever to lurk below the surface of the Northern Californian underground scene. A recluse, an anti-conformist, a writer, a non existent entity. Never one to chase success or to envy those who have crossed his path and came up. He's the sax player who played with Bird and Miles up at Minton's that you never heard of. But those that did hear him blow recognize the name. He's broke bread with the likes of Peanut Butter Wolf, Encore, the Architect, Homeliss Derilex, Fanatik, Foreign Legion, Third Sight, Azeem, Hobo Junction and countless others in the higher heights of the Bay Area Hip Hop scene.
His crew Sub Contents repped well in the mid nineties as well as the earlier part of the new millenium. They signed to now defunct indy label 75 Ark and were dropped once the label folded after his other all star collective Executive Lounge dropped an l.p. No one saw or heard from Dave Dub for years. Rumors of drug addiction, jail, mental institutions and pimpin' flooded the conversations of those who actually cared. He has a fan base that consists of tortured souls and college kids. Hipsters and fake thugs never did embrace his madness.
Recently a new project arose from the man that doesn't exist. A schizophrenic, psychotic look into a rhymers mind that had reached it's breaking point. A classic album if you've ever been there. People have said that since he's allegedly ditched his demons he's been doing well. Sometimes periodically spotted tending to his grandmothers rose garden in San Jose, or walking around downtown Oakland with a sweet smile on his face. Some have even said he's recording again. Programmed D (when and where recorded is unknown) lives up to it's initial concept. What's the result when programming deterioration?
